Champions of Uttlesford!
On Wednesday 25th March, the Katherine Semar Netball A and B teams played against 25 Uttlesford schools in a netball tournament. Both teams playing superbly, and KSJ winning the final 5:0.


Easter Service at St. Mary's

On Wednesday 11th March, Year 4 travelled to Bhaktivedanta Manor Hindu Temple. After an early start, a ride in a luxurious double decker coach and a short snack stop, we were greeted by our guides. Read about it here...

Year 5 visit the Gunpowder Mills
On Thursday 5th February Year 5 visited the Royal Gunpowder Mills in Waltham Abbey for a Victorian experience day.

Art Solutions
Monday 26th January, the whole school got together to work on our displays. Having chosen the Rainforest theme, every class set to work creating the verdant canopy and rich variety of life found within it.

Local MP visits
On Friday 16th January, we were visited by Sir Alan Haselhurst, the MP for Saffron Walden. After guided tours of the schools, Sir Alan spent time with year 5 and 6 answering questions.

Attendance Assembly
On Friday 19th December, we celebrated the end of term with an attendance assembly.
We had been challenged, by Mrs. Callaghan, to have 125 perfect attendance certificates...
Well done to all those whose attendance was good or outstanding. We were rewarded with an extra playtime as we had 127 pupils with perfect attendance.
The termly House Points were counted, and Beech are currently in the lead.

Swimming Gala Victory
On Wednesday 14th January KSJ took part in the Uttlesford Sports Partnership swimming gala.
We entered A and B teams in Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6.


Year 4 HOTP Ancient Egypt day
On Wednesday 10th December, Year 4 transformed themselves into Ancient Egyptians and travelled back in time to 14th century BC.

Music Ambassadors
On 10th December, Year 5 performed in the Saffron Hall as part of their Music Ambassadors training.


Spirit of Christmas Concert
On Saturday 6th December, children from the Katherine Semar choir arrived at St. Mary's Church to take part in the Spirit of Christmas concert.


Choir visit Care Home
On Wednesday 17th December 2014, some members of the choir walked down to Stanley Wilson Care Home in Saffron Walden to sing to, and chat to the residents.

KSJ Choir sing to turn on the Christmas Lights
On Sunday 30th November, members of the choir arrived in the Town Hall to sing in the Advent season.

Mrs. Long's retirement
On Thursday 27th November, the staff met during lunchtime to thank Mrs. Long for her hard work over 30 years at Katherine Semar and to wish her well as she starts her retirement.

KSJ to be on the radio!

On Wednesday 26th November, HeartFM arrived at Katherine Semar to record a song for the radio.

Golf Workshops
On Thursday 20th November the children all took part in some golf workshops with Paul Ring and James Scade, the professionals from Elsenham Golf Club.


LBLC Story Writing Competition
Congratulations to Ben Cassidy, (Year 3), Daisy Burgess (Year 4), Chloe Hunt (Year 5) and Della Wing (Year 6) who all came runners up the story writing competition held by the Lord Butler Leisure Centre to encourage children to get more active.

6HD Library Visit

On Thursday 20th November, 6HD enjoyed a steady walk in the Autumnal sunshine down to Saffron Walden library.



Children in Need
On Thursday 13th and Friday 14th November the children in the Junior School baked biscuits to raise money for Children in Need.


Year 5 Landing Topic
On Thursday 23rd October, Year 5 were visited by Mr Jenkins of J. Jenkins International who came in to be presented the findings of the childrenís research on the area surrounding Luzon.

6CB Library Visit

On Thursday 6th November, 6CB enjoyed a steady walk in the Autumnal sunshine down to Saffron Walden library.

Music Assembly
We had a Governor visit our Music Subject Assembly. We looked at the topics each year group is learning and looked at the music going on in the school.


4CE Class Assembly
On Wednesday 15th October, 4CE took the school on a safari through Africa. The children shared their geographical knowledge of the world and Africa and described the varying terrain throughout the continent.

4EW class assembly
On Tuesday 14th October, 4EW had their class assembly. Three intrepid explorers were visiting Africa but had their flight delayed.

5LC Class Assembly
On Tuesday 7th October, 5LC did our class assembly.

5TW class assembly
On Wednesday 8th October, 5TW presented their class assembly to the Junior School.

York Day 4
It seemed to be a slower start today. The children are having a fantastic residential, but are getting more tired as the week progresses.
York Day 3
Eden Camp was the main attraction of the day and after a delicious breakfast we set off to Malton to visit the World War 2 camp.
York Residential Day 2
There were plenty of sleepy children this morning as we awoke early for breakfast. Cereal, toast and scrambled eggs were the perfect start to another busy day.
Year 6 residential to York - Day 1
Thank you to everyone for getting to school at the right time this morning. The coach was a few minutes later than we expected but we still made good time, arriving at Whitby just before midday.
Choir members visit the Alms Houses to sing and chat to the residents.
On Wednesday 1st October, some children in the choir visited the Alms Houses in Saffron Walden to sing to the residents that live there.
Harvest festival
On Friday 3rd October, Year 3 and 4 held their harvest assembly. Please enjoy the photos.
6HD's Class Assembly
On Wednesday 24th September 2014, 6HD presented their class assembly to the Junior School.

The focus was on settling in and roles and responsibilities of being a Year 6.
6CB Class Assembly
On Tuesday 23rd September 6CB performed their class assembly to the rest of the school.

5LC visit the Library
On Thursday 25th September, 5LC walked to the town library to have a workshop on how to use the facilities.

Music Ambassadors Project launched for Year 5
On Wednesday 10th September, John K. Miles, the composer, came to do a music workshop with the children from Year 5.

Blitz, Bangs and Bombs Launch for Year 6
It has be a fantastic start to our History topic in Year 6 as the children dressed up to experience a day in a World War Two school, followed by an afternoon in the village of Comberswick.
