End of Year 6 BBQ
To celebrate the end of our Year 6s' school career at Katherine Semar we held a BBQ in the school grounds on Thursday 17th July.

Our garden at Katherine Semar is growing well, thanks to the gardening club children who tend and water the plants diligently.

Children at Katherine Semar have the opportunity, in Year 6, of completing the cycling proficiency Programme.

Saffron Walden Family Athletics Meet
The following pupils all took in the Saffron Walden Family Athletics meet on Friday 27th June at Saffron Walden County High School. They were competing against children from other local schools including Ashdon, Radwinter, St Mary's, St Thomas More, Gt. Chesterford and also RAB.

Year 5 Kessingland Residential
Year 5 went wild and wet during their 3 day residential to Kessingland, in Suffolk. Their activities based visit proved a huge success.

Great School Run
This week, all pupils, teachers and a good number of support staff and parents took part in the Great School Run, a 2km (1.25 mile) event encouraging children to take part in exercise for fun and to continue to raise awareness of the benefits of regular exercise.

On the morning of Friday 20th June, all of Year 6 attended the 'Crucial Crew' at Clarance House, Thaxted.

Perfectly Perfect Pizza

The  children in Year 5 who did not go on the Kessingland trip, spent 3 days setting up a pizza company, designing business cards, adverts and PowerPoint presentations.

A great time was had by all at Katherine Semar's Summer Fair, which took place on Saturday 7th June 2008.

Year 6 Visit St. Mark's College
To celebrate the end of SATs, Year 6 we and visited St. Mark's College. Archery and the Assault Course were two of the activities on offer.

Katherine Semar Junior School has been chosen out of the 577 Essex schools to be the Essex Grid for Learning School Website of the Month.

Katherine Semar Receive the Sportsmark for 2007/8
We are very proud to announce that Katherine Semar Junior School has achieved the Sportsmark status. All schools are now automatically assessed for one of the marks through the national school sport survey, which all School Sport Partnership schools take part in.

Year 3 Residential to St. Mark's College
On Wednesday 14th May 2008, The Year 3 children, together with Miss. Spearpoint, Mrs. Sandwell and Mr. Wallace, set off for the residential visit to St. Mark's college, Audley End.
Their three day stay was the first time that some of these children had spent the night away from their parents.
The children really enjoyed their visit to St. Mark's College.

Cricket Match report
On Wednesday 7th May Katherine Semar played Great Chesterford in a cricket match. We batted first the first batting pair were: Thomas and Charlie. They hit lots of fours and good 1s and 2s.

Gardening Club
The children have decided that the land between Year 6 and the Dining room needed improving. The gardening club was duly formed, with eight volunteers from Year 5 and 6.

Mrs. Sheil has been teaching in and around Saffron Walden for over thirty years. She currently teaches Year 5 and is responsible for P.S.H.E. and the School Council.

West Stow - Anglo Saxon Village
Year 3 enjoyed their trip to West Stow Anglo Saxon Village. In the morning they investigated the artefacts that were discovered on the site.

Tri-Golf 2008
Year 4 had a smashing time practising different skills at the Saffron Walden County High School on Friday 25th April. They were there to experience the joys of golf. Putting, chipping and driving were the order of the day.

Gifted and Talented Club Presentation

On Thursday 20th March 2008, a group of children from the Gifted and Talented club delivered a presentation on the environment.
The talk discussed the issues surrounding climate change and man's input into this phenomenon. It also tackled the subject of what we could do to help.

Little Laureates 2008
In October the children took part in a Young Writers Poetry competition called ‘Little Laureates’. In total 145 children entered their poem and we were very pleased that 138 children have been published in the ‘Verses from Essex’ book.

On Thursday 21st February 2008, Theatre Active, a theatre company based in Harlow, visited Katherine Semar Junior school to deliver a performance on the facts surrounding bullying.

Thor the Giant Killer

On Thursday 24th January, the touring theatre company, Cornelius Jones performed for our children.
After the whole school performance of Thor, the Giant Killer, the Year 3 children enjoyed puppet workshops.

We finished our Autumn term with a celebration assembly. 30 of our children went through the term with perfect attendance... and they were never late either!

Carol Concert and Music Assembly

We celebrated Christmas with a concert which showcased our talented musicians. Our school choir sang the songs they performed during the Spirit of Christmas concert at St. Mary's Church too.

Year 3 and 4 students performed the famous story of The Selfish Giant. With quality acting, dancing and singing, the show was very well received.

Our Year 5 and 6 students performed the annual pantomime. This year we performed Jack and the Beanstalk. Special credit to Mr. Lloyd for directing so magnificently, and to Jack and Daisy, who acted brilliantly.
